Green power talks reported
The Federal Government has laid out a path for Australia to become a green energy superpower.
The Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment Growth has issued a report on Australia's ascent in the renewable energy arena, saying the nation has the potential to seize opportunities and solidify its position as a hub for trade and investment in the burgeoning global green economy.
“Throughout the inquiry the Committee heard about the vast range of current and emerging opportunities for Australia, capitalising on our unique strengths and comparative advantages to develop new export-led industries, driving economic growth and creating jobs,” says committee chair, Steve Georganas MP.
The Committee's report, featuring 16 key recommendations, aims to ensure that every measure is taken to bolster the transition and harness Australia's potential in the global green economy.
The Committee's recommendations primarily focus on the potentially pivotal role of the Australian Government in accelerating opportunities and confronting associated challenges.
These include maximising Australia's current trade and investment infrastructure to capitalise on global green economy prospects, backing value-added manufacturing and export avenues, crafting a national strategy for green energy superpower status, aligning promotional efforts with green energy aspirations, and reinforcing domestic manufacturing capacity in sectors marked by supply chain vulnerabilities.
The Committee's rigorous inquiry involved ten public hearings across key Australian cities, alongside over 120 written submissions from individuals, organisations, and governmental bodies.
