IA overhaul announced
Infrastructure Australia is up for a major overhaul, according to Catherine King.
During her address to the National Press Club, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government has announced reforms to the operations of Infrastructure Australia.
The reforms will entail the appointment of three merit-based commissioners to the independent advisory body who will oversee Infrastructure Australia's role in project post-completion stages, future initiatives, and coordinating with state, territory, and local government agencies to undertake more thorough assessments.
Ms King said that the goal is to ensure more focused and effective decision-making. The reforms will be introduced into parliament soon.
Ms King emphasised the need for targeted investments in projects that deliver productivity growth and both economic and social returns.
She also called for a better partnership between Infrastructure Australia and her department in the budgetary decision-making process.
Ms King has committed to improving the resilience of the transport networks and supply chains, including the creation of green shipping lanes with international partners.
