Skills shortage spreading
An official report says Australia is facing a “staggering” skills shortage.
Occupation shortages doubled in 2022 as the labour market tightened, according to the new National Skills Commission report.
Nearly a third of all Australian sectors are confronting serious worker shortfalls, the report says, with registered nurses, software engineers, and care workers in most demand, and construction managers, childcare workers and motor mechanics also near the top.
Job vacancies were up by over 40 per cent in the year to August 2022, reaching 309,000 jobs.
