About the Opportunity: 

We are building a significant glass manufacturing and remanufacturing facility in Yatala just south of Brisbane. The factory represents the largest investment we have ever made, we recycle up to 200,000 tonnes of Queensland’s glass annually to produce 1 billion bottles a year. We are building next to our box factory and beverage can plan, this will create a beverage container precinct to further support of customers and a range of new career pathways for our staff. The project is expected to be operational in 2025. 

This role operates within the construction team to deliver the capital program of work. As a Project Engineer you will manage internal and external resources from BRR, Engineering Contractor Companies, Consulting Companies and Equipment Suppliers who support this build. The position has been designed to lead and be responsible for implementing technical directives from BRR Australia and supporting the Yatala Glass Project team. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with the Senior Project Engineer and Engineering Team to monitor key construction requirements to ensure they are achieved in line with Project specific requirements.  
  • Leading review and audit processes, overseeing Non-Conformance Reporting (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs). 
  • Document and records management, overseeing and managing relevant registers, documents and document control systems. 
  • Implementation of the change management processes; identifying and recording any changes to project or project elements scopes, technology, equipment or methods.  
  • Conducting risk assessments and verifying and validating any critical controls with the project environment. 
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations on the project site. Part of your role will involve conducting regular site inspections to verify compliance with project requirements, identifying potential areas for improvement in how Visy BRR or our contractors execute project requirements. 
  • Provide engineering/technical support to on-site Supervision and project staff involved in the execution of works.  
  • Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that project is executed in accordance with plans, designs and specifications. 

Your Experience: 

  • 5 years’ experience of technical expertise in a construction project delivery environment, ideally in civil or structural engineering. 
  • Holds a bachelor’s in engineering degree, obtained from an Engineers Australia recognised institution. 
  • Experience working for with a mid to tier one building construction company, contributing to a significant industrial or large commercial project. 
  • Broad experience with quality control, environmental monitoring and compliance to standards and construction plans. 
  • Ability to work well with contractors and with other disciplines in construction and engineering teams. 
  • Experience and understanding of RFI and contract management process. An ability to work with internal commercial and contract management resources, ensuring that documentation is structured appropriately to achieve the right commercial outcomes.  
  • The ability to accurately and effectively communicate with contractors and fellow team members.
